Can We Predict the Mental Health of Young Black Males

Demographic, ecologic, psychosocial, and mental health status information was collected from 89 young black men of average age 23 from black female headed families who had been interviewed (along with their mothers) as adolescents. This current information was compared to both adolescent data and mother's socialization practices and lifestyle, with the goal of predicting present outcome based on this information. In addition, a predictive model of mental health outcome based on community resources available to the growing child, as well as the information collected, was developed.
