摘要

The purpose of this project was to evaluate the feasibility of using multiplicity techniques for estimating components of population change. The project was conducted in the Philippines and success in measuring the rates of birth, death, and migration will be of tremendous value to the Phillipi and other developing nations who must find ways to estimate their rates of population growth. The results should also be applicable for the estimation of 'rare events' through household surveys in the United States. The multiplicity techniques differ from the conventional household survey in that it permits the household respondent to report events which occurred in other dwelling units. Each sample household, in addition to reporting events that occurred among its own residents, reports events that occurred to specific relatives who lived elsewhere, and the households provides information to calibrate the multiplicity of each event reported; that is, the number of households containing relatives who would report him according to the multiplicity rule adopted in the survey. In this project a followup sample of households containing relatives was conducted in order to obtain estimates of measurement error associated with the information collected about them in the household survey.
