Development of Cost Simulation Study of Alcoholism Insurance Benefit Packages: Documentation of the Alcoholism Treatment Health Insurance Simulation Model (ATHIS)

A computer-based model, the Alcoholism Treatment Health Insurance Simulator (ATHIS), used to conduct experiments with six health insurance packages for coverage of alcoholism treatment is documented. This model is designed to trace the progress of patients being treated for alcoholism from the time they are admitted to any one of three types of service units (inpatient, transitional, and ambulatory care) through their treatment in these service units and their eventual discharge. A background of this model and its logic is provided, including its structure and relationship, documentation of input data utilized for each simulation experiment, and a program listing. It is noted that this is not a users manual; however, an experienced programmer can easily convert this program to any system which has BASIC language.
