Methodology for Water Resource Assment

This report summarizes the 15-month research effort undertaken to demonstrate the application of new methodology to assessment of the Nation's water resources. The report, which is devoted mostly to models of hydrologic basins and to statistical techniques for fitting parameters to these models, is divided into five basic segments: (1) consideration of three recently developed water-balance models for hydrologic basins and consideration of their properties and of their parameters, (2) role of water quality in basin assessment, (3) theoretical development for incorporating statistical error or uncertainty into the analysis, (4) the introduction of a new model for allocating the available water in a basin to its several sinks, and (5) numerical examples of the theoretical developments.
