Automatic Distribution of AFOS (Automation of Field Operations and Services) Products Created at NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Central Computer Facility via Hamlet (RJE) Punch Stream

This paper presents a summary of pertinent information concerning an efficient, totally automatic method for distribution of Automation of Field Operations and Services (AFOS) products created at the NOAA Central Computer Facility (NCCF) using a HAMLET (RJE) punch stream. This method directs NCCF data products to AFOS without halting RJE and does not require processing of RDOS files or any other manual intervention. This information was gained by the Missouri Basin River Forecast Center (MBRFC) through experience over a two and one-half year period beginning in June 1981. An overall strategy of operation is provided, as well as more specific details and references. The (MBRFG) has been automatically transmitting model generated hydrologic guidance products to National Weather Service (NWS) communications systems for over seven years.
