Evaluation of Point Precipitation Probability Forecasts Using Radar Estimates of Rainfall Areal Coverage

This study continues earlier investigations into the relationships between first-period probability of precipitation (PoP) forecasts prepared at WSFO Birmingham, Alabama, and radar estimates of areal coverage of rainfall in Southern Alabama and Northwest Florida. Forecast and observed data from the summer (June through August) of 1982 have been analyzed and results are compared with similar analyses from the summers of 1976 and 1977.
