Archaeology and History at the Sites Homestead: A Nineteenth Century Farmstead in West Virginia

Excavations were conducted at the Sites Homestead and results identified the presence of a single disturbed outbuilding associated with the homestead and provides information related to the homestead's chronology and function. Also, material culture from the excavation as well as information gathered in an oral history interview provided insights into mid-nineteenth through early twentieth century farmstead life in mountainous West Virginia. Results of the excavation, however, suggest that there are no archaeological remains sufficiently well preserved to warrent nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
