Pastoreo y Pastizales de los Andes del sur del Peru (Shepherding and Pasturelands of the Southern Andes of Peru)

The Andes are the center of the major livestock production of Peru. Feeding these livestock depends on pastures, agricultural byproducts, cultivated forrage, and unconventional resources like subaquatic vegetation on the shores of Lake Titicaca. It is these pastures which have provided more than 80% of the fodder and which have permitted the domestication of species as adapted as the alpaca and llama and the introduction of sheep and cattle with relative success. Separate chapters are devoted to the origin, distribution and socio-economic aspects of pastures; the ecosystem of the Peruvian southern Andes and its relation with pastures; botanic description of the principal forrage species and vegetal associations of the southern Peruvian Andes (sPA); classification of Andean flora; the current pastoral economy; evaluation and improvement of the pastures; list of native species of the pastures of sPA and regional numbers; and Quechua and Aymara terminology.
