Dynamics of Mesoscale Weather Systems: 1984 Summer Colloquium Held at Boulder, Colorado on June 11-July 6, 1984

The 1984 Summer Colloquium was conducted from 11 June to 20 July 1984, combining four weeks of seminars and discussions at NCAR with a two week American Meteorological Society (AMS) intensive course on Mesoscale Meteorology and Forecasting held at the University of Colorado (cosponsored by the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies and the Environmental Research Laboratories of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). In the NCAR portion of the program, the authors emphasized the fundamental aspects of mesoscale dynamics, including the mechanisms which produce significant mesoscale weather events, the dynamic processes which govern their evolution, and the scale interactions which modulate the energetics of disturbances throughout the mesoscale. The AMS short course was directed toward both operationally oriented scientists and graduate students and presented lectures and laboratory sessions on the phenomenology of mesoscale weather processes, the observation and modeling of mesoscale weather, and mesoscale forecasting.
