Identification of Variables Associated with Maintenance of Nonsmoking in Ex-Smokers

The purpose of this project was to identify the predictors of maintenance of nonsmoking. The study focused on smoking history and environment, health beliefs, attributions, perceived consequences of abstinence, responses to tempting situations and abstinence violations, coping skills, and stressful life events. Baseline questionnaires and pulmonary function tests were administered to 837 participants in smoking cessation programs.
