摘要

Reindeer are an important member of the Arctic and subarctic biocenose of the old and new world. In Soviet Union the problem of wild reindeer has become very acute. Wild reindeer are a rare and protected species which has multiplied to such an extent in certain areas that it threatens to destroy the very basis of its existence, namely pasture land. Soviet Union is the only country in the world with highly developed reindeer breeding, which represents the northernmost example of animal husbandry. The economic and ecological balance between wild and domesticated reindeer has been adversely affected due to this high increase in their population. The papers read at the 1974 conference are published in the present work.
