Decision-Maker's Handbook and Guide to 1973-83 Mental Health Client Outcome Evaluation and Treatment Effectiveness Studies

The project used two professional services contracts to accomplish the scope of work. Under the first, a literature review provided an annotated bibliography of studies funded and executed under NIMH and other auspices that evaluates the treatment outcomes of mental health service programs. The audience for this bibliography is mental health program managers and the annotations provide summarizations of study findings from this point of view. Under the second contract a framework for the managerial use of outcome results is provided. The limited bibliography conveys the importance of outcome data and amasses evidence that selected treatment programs are consistently effective. The conceptual document shows how outcome data fits with other managerial data and how decisionmaking is facilitated by such information.
