摘要

The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program is a continuing project of the Biometry Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Among the primary objectives of this Program is the provision of detailed information on the incidence of and the mortality due to malignant neoplasms within the United States. Information is collected on demographic characteristics of the patient, anatomic site, histologic cell type, and extent of disease at the time of diagnosis of the cancer, as well as data on treatment given and subsequent vital status of the patient. Data are provided on a population base so that incidence, survival, and mortality data can each be related to the same defined group of individuals at risk. This report gives information on cancer incidence and mortality in the United States during the first nine years of the Program, 1973-81, and updates NCI Monograph 57 (6). Data for individual years as well as for the summary time periods of 1973-77 and 1978-81 are presented here.
