Ease of Diagnosis and Repair of New Cars

This study assessed the feasibility of developing automotive repairability ratings based on ease of diagnosis and ease of repair of cars by make and model. The study provided information on the degree to which current vehicles are equipped with computerized diagnostic equipment, the types of systems which can be diagnosed by such equipment, and the degree to which current vehicles can be rated on this information. To accomplish the objective of the study, the contractor (1) identified and analyzed ease of diagnosis features, (2) identified the diagnostic equipment and instruments used by automotive service establishments in conjunction with the diagnostic features identified, (3) developed a cost structure, and (4) documented its findings.
