Examination of the Applicability of Quality Control Circles and Other Management Techniques in the U.S. Luggage Industry

The rationale for this study derived from the fact that 67 percent of the firms in the domestic luggage manufacturing industry report that imports from foreign manufacturers to the U.S. pose a problem. One response to this situation required the domestic luggage manufacturers to improve their productivity to compete effectively with imports. Increasing the efficient utilization of human resources, both line and staff, through the use of innovative management techniques has the potential for quickly generating productivity increases. The study examines the applicability of the Quality Circle (QC) concept to the U.S. luggage industry, and the applicability of non-QC techniques (i.e., other management techniques), that will improve human resource efficiency in the U.S. luggage industry.
