Effect of Wives' Employment on Family Migration

摘要

The purpose of this research is therefore to understand the possible constraints that wives' employment imposes on family migration. The author tests alternative hypotheses concerning the effect of wives' employment on the decision to migrate, focusing on wives' earning capacity, employment status, fulfillment through work, and finally, the couples' sex-role attitudes. Hypotheses are derived from both economic and sociological theory. I build and test a model of this process using data on women during three decades of the life span for a recent time period.
