National Institute of Mental Health Community Support Program. Volume 1. History and Evaluation. Volume 2. Emerging Issues: A Report of the NIMH/CSP Program Review

In response to significant changes in the delivery of mental health service to adults disabled by severe and chronic mental illness, in 1977 the NIMH developed the Community Support Program (CSP). This program provides small grants to States to assist them in providing a range of community-based services and opportunities to the target population to enable them to live in the community. This study reviews the history of the CSP, summarizes its achievements to date, and identifies emerging issues which affect future directions of the program. The methodology used was a 'program review' which included review of the CSP by researchers, evaluators, consumers and program administrators.
