Research projects which were active at the start of 1984 are summarized. The projects focus on the physical and chemical phenomena that are associated with minerals and metal production. The scope of the research extends to processing of scraps, waste solids, effluents, and subsequent safe disposal of unrecoverable wastes. The studies emphasize fundamental principles, experimental techniques, mathematical models, and process design. The names of the principal investigators and their institutions are listed. Grant information is provided.
