Automated Analysis of Upper Air Soundings to Specify Precipitation Type

The vertical temperature and moisture structure of the atmosphere, as obtained from the radiosonde observation (RAOB), is an important consideration for short-range forecasts of precipitation type. This computer program automatically analyzes a RAOB and computes a number of variables which have been found to be important in discriminating between liquid, freezing, and frozen precipitation.
