The objectives of the report are to define new homogeneous geographic regions with respect to residential/commercial factors, and to define a framework for regional and site-specific analyses of new end-use technologies for the residential/commercial sector. Four tasks were completed in the performance of the regional segmentation analysis: (1) determination of residential/commercial regions; (2) definition of prototypical regions; (3) selection of regional representative cities; and (4) definition of prototypical cities. Statistical analyses resulted in the determination of 16 residential/commercial regions. Each region is a distinct grouping of contiguous states. Five prototypical regions were identified as a representative subset of the 16 regions. In addition, 18 cities were selected to represent the residential/commercial regions, and five sites were identified as prototypical cities.
