Wind Tunnel and Full-Scale Measurements of the Wind Field over Low-Relief Topography at ECN (Netherlands Energy Research Foundation) Petten

The wind field over the dunes at ECN Petten has been investigated both outdoors and in a wind tunnel. The full-scale data show considerable scatter, which can partly be attributed to varying atmospheric conditions. The wind tunnel results are compared with the full-scale results, showing that there is agreement for ratios between velocities in the horizontal plane, and about 6 percent difference for the velocity ratios in the vertical plane. The scatter in the full-scale data is, however, large compared to the difference between wind tunnel- and full-scale data; consequently no significant statistical correlation between both data sets can be found.
