Database Software Selection for the Egyptian National STI (Scientific and Technical Information) Network

The study reports on the evaluation and selection of information/data management software for the Egyptian National Scientific and Technical (STI) Network. The report elaborates on the differences between information retrieval and database management (DBMS) systems, and concludes that while the Egyptian databases are likely to contain both unstructured text and structured numeric data, the former are likely to receive initial emphasis. From this premise the report lists the mandatory and desirable specifications of the database software.
