Plural Analysis: Developing Multiple Approaches to Quantitative Research. Phase 1

The project proposes a methodology of plural analysis, with a decision-science focus, which is to be grounded in sound science and be practically useful. The methodology comprises guidelines and computer aids for conducting plural analysis and methods for generating new guidelines and aids. The steps include generating single approaches; evaluating portfolios of approaches; designing analytic strategy; and integrating results. Applications explored include nuclear regulation, laboratory risk assessment, target location, and commercial market research. A tentative, but operational, plural analysis framework is proposed including four more-or-less heuristic, computer-oriented procedures.
