Electric Transmission Line Costs and Construction Lead Times

The study was commissioned by the Office of Technology Assessment to determine the potential for constructing new electric transmission facilities as one strategic response to a long-term major oil supply disruption. The primary considerations for implementing such a strategy are the time required to build new facilities (including licensing and construction phases) and the cost construction. In performing the work a number of newly completed and proposed transmission lines were surveyed.
