摘要

The report presents the design, construction and three year performance evaluation of an experimental, soil-reinforced, tire anchor timber retaining wall constructed with salvaged materials. The work was accomplished under a federally funded research project and is an extension of previous research by Caltrans using tire sidewalls to reinforce embankments. Two walls were constructed in August 1981 on Route 203 at Mammoth Lakes, California. The walls were constructed from salvaged railroad ties used as facing with soil reinforcing consisting of embedded tire sidewall and steel tie-back anchor assemblies. Wall height varied from 3 to 12 feet and supported 1.5:1 sloping backfills. One wall was instrumented to monitor stresses in the anchor bars and horizontal and vertical movements of the face.
