More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Exempt Organizations, Public Charities, and Private Foundations

Technical matters relating to fund raising by non profit organizations are summarized. Items covered are: qualifying an organization as non profit; qualifying as a public charity; differences between public charities and private foundations; and, advantages of being a public charity and retaining public charity status. This is a part of a series of papers designed to assist mental health delivery programs in broadening their base of private sector financial support.
