摘要

The study examined the feasibility of monitoring fish ventilatory behavior to provide a sensitive and reliable real time water quality monitor. Objectives included: (1) the development of an acceptable monitoring chamber; (2) assessing some of the components that comprise fish ventilatory behavior (frequency, amplitude, gill purge or cough, and waveform); (3) quantifying the changes in these components that may occur upon exposure to certain toxic chemicals; (4) initiating the software development of a computer based algorithm for automatically collecting fish ventilatory data.
