摘要

This report presents statistics on housing and household characteristics for the Phoenix, Ariz., Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA), based on data from the 1981 Annual Housing Survey (AHS). Tables show data for housing units in central cities, outside central cities, and for the SMSA as a whole. Statistics present selected housing characteristics for 1981, 1977, 1974, and 1970; characteristics of new construction units and of housing units removed from the housing inventory; and characteristics of vacant year - round housing units. The same data are shown again for housing units with a black householder and for those with Spanish - orgin householder. Data also cover indicators of housing and neighborhood quality: characteristics for owner - and renter - occupied housing units as a whole and for those with black and Spanish householders. Tables present characteristics of owner - and renter - occupied housing units by family and property along with characteristics of renter - occupied housing units by gross rent. The same data are shown for black and Spanish households. Statistics also focus on characteristics of all occupied housing units and units occupied by recent movers, income of families and primary individuals by purchase price and amount of mortgage, and characteristics of the present unit for recent mover households cross - classified by characteristics of the previous unit. Tables show cross - tabulations of the indicators of housing and neighborhood quality by income, value, and gross rent. The 1981 AHS data indicate a net gain of $144,000 housing units over the 1977 AHS estimate. This reflects 124,500 housing units added to the inventory through new construction plus 31,100 unspecified housing units that entered the inventory. About 19 percent of Phoenix's total housing stock was constructed since the last survey in 1977. Most of the new construction occurred in the suburbs. Maps and table - finding guides are provided. Appendixes include area classifications, definitions, and explanations of subject characteristics along with a facsimile of the AHS 1981 questionnaire and a discussion of source and reliability of estimates.
