Benefits of Using ASTM Building Economies Standards for the Design, Construction, and Operation of Constructed Facilities.

Following the May 22, 2011 tornado that devastated the City of Joplin, NIST sent four engineers to Missouri on May 24 through May 28 to conduct a preliminary reconnaissance. Based on analysis of the data collected and other criteria required by law and regulation, NIST Director Patrick Gallagher established a Team under the National Construction Safety Team Act on June 29, 2011, to proceed with a more comprehensive study of the impacts of the disaster. This document describes NIST's plan for conducting the technical study.
