The purpose of the Special Management Areas Conference was to provide agency resource specialists, resource planners, area managers and public interest groups with a comprehensive introduction to the planning, designation and management of Special Management Areas. Nineteen papers were presented in four categories covering: Why Designate Special Management Areas, The Data base Available and Data Needs, The Planning and Implementation Process, and The Management of Special Management Areas.
