Test Excavations in the Wawona Valley: Report of the 1983 and 1984 Wawona Archaeological Projects, Yosemite National Park, California

Twenty-five archeological sites were investigated to evaluate the possible effects of construction on the cultural resources. The investigations demonstrate that the Wawona area contains significant archeological resources. Several sites with rich, diverse artifact assemblages were found. Evidence suggests that a sophisticated network of obsidian exchange and biface reduction was in operation by the earliest known period of occupation at Wawona and continued throughout the prehistoric period.
