Optical Radiation Emissions from Selected Sources. Part 2. High Intensity Discharge Lamps

This report, Part II of a multiple publication, presents the results of spectral emission measurements for high intensity discharge lamps. A study was conducted at the Environmental Research Laboratories of Scottsdale, Arizona, under contract to the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (formerly the Bureau of Radiological Health), FDA, as part of a large-scale screening of optical radiation sources. Part I of the resulting report was published in 1980. It was entitled 'Optical Radiation Emissions from Selected Sources: Part I - Quartz Halogen and Fluorescent Lamps.' Values are presented here for irradiance, effective irradiance according to the ACGIH Threshold Limit Values, radiance, and illumination for members of the high intensity discharge source family (e.g., mercury vapor). Plots of spectral irradiance are also presented for each lamp. As in the previous report, no attempt is made to perform a detailed hazard analysis of the spectral emissions from any of the sources.
