Review of Selected High Speed Waterborne Operations Worldwide

The overall purpose of this study is to assess and document the existing HSW transportation industry throughout the free world and to assess the potential for its development as a commercial passenger service in the United States and its territories. Most significant HSW transportation operations (i.e.: using craft cruising at 25 knots or higher) in the free world were analyzed as part of this study. This effort yielded insights and experiences indicating how successful HSW passenger services have been implemented and operated in various parts of the world. This report includes: (1) a comparative review of service, fleet, passenger, marketing, cost, and financing characteristics of HSW service operations and (2) case studies of eight specific HSW operators which describe in detail their services, craft, financial condition, and maintenance practices.
