Personal Protective Equipment and Welders: An Analysis of Injury Statistics and Usage Trends With Recommendations for and Improved Standard

The report is information gathering effort designed to provide background data on existing personal protective equipment usage patterns in industrial welding. In addition, two sets of welding accident data were evaluated to identify accident/injury trends which might be addressed or corrected by proper personal protective equipment (PPE) use. It was felt that these two data sets coupled with existing ANSI, NSC, NIOSH and AWS recommendations would provide a sound technical base on which to begin rewriting the welding PPE usage standard.
