A large part of the research activities conducted by the Coastal Zone and Estuarine Studies Division (CZES) at the Northwest and Alaska Fisheries Center (NWAFC) require monitoring the movement rates and relative abundance of migrating juvenile salmonids in the Snake-Columbia River system. This paper describes the data network and the computer file/program system which was developed to process the information. Species composition and mark-recapture data are collected at key index sites (hydroelectric dams) and relayed to the NWAFC computer. The system provides information regarding the status of river flow conditions, dam operations, and fish migration. This information is necessary for fisheries managers to determine if additional river flow or spill should be provided to expedite fish passage through the river system.
