Symposium on Floating Exchange Rates in an Interdependent World

This report on a symposium responding to congressional concern that the high value of the dollar on foreign exchange markets during the early 1980s examines the harm to the competitive standing of U.S. firms and the subsequent severity of the last recession. The U.S. General Accounting Office undertook a study of the determinants of international exchange rates. As part of that effort the GAO sponsored a symposium with leading specialists on exchange rate behavior on February 18, 1983.
