Thermodynamics of the Extraction of Dicarboxylic Acids from Aqueous Solutions

The thesis has been undertaken to investigate the thermodynamics of partitioning system, water-adipic acid-organic solvent. To achieve the objective, the following experiments were proposed to be undertaken: to determine a stable equilibrating system by varying - (the composition of mutually immiscible solvents and the concentration of the solute under investigation), to determine the effect of rising temperature on the partitioning behavior of the solute, and to investigate the extraction efficiency of different solvents to extract the solute from its aqueous solutions. The data thus obtained would be processed to formulate the most suitable relationship to find an accurate value of the distribution coefficient and to evaluate the thermodynamic properties of the system under study.
