摘要

In 1981, as in 1980, information on births of Hispanic parentage was available for 22 States. The States that included an item on their birth certificate on the ethnic or Hispanic origin of the mother and father were Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. These States accounted for nearly 95 percent of the national estimate of Hispanic-origin births in 1981. Data on births of Hispanic parentage have been available since 1978 when States first began to add the Hispanic or ethnic identifer to their birth certificates. Demographic and health characteristics of 1978, 1979, and 1980 Hispanic births were reported in detail in earlier reports. In addition, several tabulations of birth and fertility rates by Hispanic origin were prepared for the 1980 data year, utilizing population information available from the decennial census.
