The objective of the project has been the development of methods for the measurement of lineal, rotational-lineal, lineal-rotational, and rotational admittance. The method investigated uses pairs of lineal sensors, separated spatially, for the measurement of both lineal and rotational motions, or forces and moments. Research results indicate that with good design and manufacture, sensors meeting the transverse sensitivity criterion are feasible, if the piezoelectric constants of crystal element pairs, cut from the same crystal, are matched to within 0.1%. A concept has been developed for an inexpensive two-channel measurement system, based on a 16-bit personal computer, which is readily expandable for multichannel operation, and which will meet the criteria for precision of magnitude and phase measurements if certain conditions are met.
