Advanced System for Batch/Semicontinuous Process Engineering

For developing an integrated computer-aided process engineering system for batch and semicontinuous (B/SC) plants. The main objectives were the formulation of detailed functional specification components, identification of key methodological problems, and preliminary testing. The work focused on four components yet to be designed for such a system: the interactive graphics user interface, the physical properties interface, the process equipment module library, and an engineering database management system. The development of a complex batch distillation module identified important areas that need careful thought to facilitate writing general purpose dynamic simulation models. A data base management system is the key component in developing the integrated support and analyses systems envisioned for B/SC processes.
