Development and Use of the PADS (Passenger/Driver Simulation) Computer Program

The PADS computer program provides the user with a fast and efficient means to obtain good approximations of occupant response in frontal collisions. The input requirements for the program are not extensive and the post-processing programs allow easy interpretation of PADS program output. The PADS program is well suited for preliminary investigations of the effect of vehicle design changes on occupant response. A large number of runs can be made quickly to determine what changes would be most promising. Such a study could then be followed by a limited study using a more sophisticated program, such as the CAL-3D Crash Victim Simulator, or by a test program.
