Effects of Suspended Sediments on Stream Invertebrate Detrital Processing and Bioenergetics

The effects of suspended sediments on stream invertebrate detrital processing and bioenergetic parameters were investigated in replicated, light and temperature-controlled chambers in the laboratory. The leafshredding insects Pteronarcys californica and Hesperophylax occidentalis were studied. Mean daily ingestion rates were less among test insects than control insects for seven of the eight trials.
