摘要

A walkthrough survey of Randolph Air Force Base (SIC-4582), San Antonio, Texas was conducted in December, 1981. The purpose of the survey was to assess potential exposure of personnel to 2-methoxyethanol (109864) during aircraft operations and to determine whether the personnel involved in refueling should be included in a study of potential reproductive health effects due to glycol ether exposure. During refueling, personnel stood to one side of the aircraft once the fuel hoses were attached to the inlet spout of the fuel tanks. The potential for 2-methoxyethanol exposure was greatest when bypass valves were opened to purge the tanks of residual fuel vapors. During refueling, personnel wore safety glasses and shoes, and their normal military clothing. The author concludes that the personnel involved in refueling operations are not suitable for inclusion into the reproductive effects study due to their small number and their low exposure to 2-methoxyethanol.
