Roller Compacted Concrete Interagency Forum. Held in Lakewood, Colorado on April 2-4, 1985

Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) technology in America is in its infancy but growing rapidly. Dam construction applications have been completed; a few are still in progress. This is an appropriate time to bring together knowledgeable people to share ideas and concepts. The purpose of the forum is to get the RCC technology going, improve on it, and begin to reduce development and construction time and costs. RCC is entering the international marketplace and foreign improvements are being made, such as in Japan. Domestically, there is a need to be less competitive between public and private sector efforts; pooling resources and knowledge to enter the international market will help take up the slack created by a slowing domestic market. There are tremendous foreign development opportunities. China, for example with its Three Gorges Dam, has vast needs, locales, and resources for RCC work. It is difficult for the U.S. to compete; Japan, Canada, and some European countries are being more successful. The Bureau of Reclamation has acted as a consultant on RCC projects for China. The central theme of the forum is to promote interagency and private/public sector interaction to address the international marketplace.
