High Voltage Divider and Resistor Calibrations

An NBS calibration service for determining the ratio of high voltage dc dividers and the resistance of high voltage resistors is described. Calibrations are performed with a Wheatstone bridge apparatus with a simple guard system. Sources of systematic error are identified and methods for characterizing the NBS standard high voltage resistors are discussed. Ratio and resistance values can be determined between the voltages of 10 kV and 150 kV with an uncertainty of less than + or -0.01%.
