Future needs for electrical generation in the State of Maryland will likely require the siting of a power plant in the upper Chesapeake Bay. Two sites have been considered as candidates: Perryman, located on the Bush River, and Bainbridge, located near the mouth of the Susquehanna River. Because the aquatic environments in the vicinity of these potential plants may be affected by the operation, it is essential to determine which aquatic habitats will be at risk and the relative value of the habitats with respect to important aquatic resources. Larval fish were collected in the various habitats during the summer of 1982 and the spring and summer of 1983. Two habitat characteristics--salinity and presence of SAV--were important determinants of the abundance and distribution of larval fishes, as well as those of the macro- and meso-plankton.
