Toxic Organic Chemical Transport and Fate in Groundwater Systems

The project involved the development and application of a mathematical model of groundwater contaminant transport and fate. An existing two-dimensional groundwater flow and contaminant transport model was modified to include contaminant transformation processes including nonlinear adsorption and desorption, biodegradation, hydrolysis and volatilization. The model was applied to Price's Landfill in Pleasantville, New Jersey. Comparisons were made between predictions of contaminant migration with and without transformation processes.
