Workshop to Assess Possible Methods for Regulating the Distribution and Movements of Sea Otters Held at San Francisco, California on October 25-26, 1984

The purposes of this workshop were to: Identify and evaluate the likely effectiveness of ways whereby se otters might be maintained in designated areas to protect them while avoiding or minimizing conflicts caused by sea otters eating abalone, clams and other species sought by commercial and recreational fishermen; describe research necessary to test and evaluate the likely effectiveness of potentially useful methods; and determine the time, funding, and other resources necessary to do the described research. The workshop concluded that: a variety of techniques could be used to regulate sea otter distribution and movements; no single technique would be suitable or effective in all situations.
