The Sea Grant Program on Marine Corrosion began in the fall of 1980 as a cooperative research endeavor involving eight principal investigators from both academia and industry. Volume one of the four-volume report summarizes and evaluates the program, while volumes two through four present the technical details for each of the program's major segments. This volume, volume three, documents the technical results of three years of work undertaken at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the University of Delaware on localized corrosion of alloys. The report discusses the role of water chemistry, of magnesium as an alloying element, and of water flow velocity, as well as the development of the scanning potential microprobe for studying localized corrosion, and experimental techniques used at M. I. T. and at the University of Delaware. Graphics enhance the 107-page text.
