Rapid Population Growth and Human Carrying Capacity: Two Perspectives

The paper is one in a special series of World Bank Staff Working Papers on population change and development. The papers cover a range of topics, including the effects of population growth and change on economic development, the determinants of fertility and mortality, the links between population growth and internal and international migration, and the management, financing, and effectiveness of family planning programs. They include several country and regional studies of fertility change and population policy.
